This will catch you off-guard ... exemplary story

I got something in my email the other day, and I want to share it with you. It's perfect for tonight, because it reveals to us just how easy it is to love, just how easy it is to be an individual savior in a world that's begging to be saved, person by person, moment by moment.

This is a story which comes to us from a woman who, many years ago, worked as a volunteer at a hospital. She got to know a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare and serious disease.

Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her 5-year-old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness.

The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the little boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. The boy hesitated for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, "Yes, I'll do it if it will save her."

As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheeks.

Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, "Will I start to die right away?"

You see, being young, the little boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood in order to save her.

What we're talking about here is love. Plain and simple, short and sweet. We're talking about love.

Love can be sent to others in a thousand ways. Even thoughts of love can change things. They can be felt. Be you, and by the person you are thinking of, too.

Johnny Cash forever

A short clip of "five feet high and rising" that we performed at le Centre-Expo during le Country Festival. Was awesome doing the man in black, easily my favorite. We practice now and then to stay relatively fresh, always enjoy singing his songs on my own and obviously with a big band in public.

Favorite personal pic, then the gang.

1st golf win

Arsenault wins PEIGA Match Play

Nick Arsenault from the Mill River Golf Club is the PEIGA Match Play Champion for 2010. Arsenault captured the championship Tuesday afternoon with a 3 and 1 victory over Dave Shellington of Belvedere. After thirteen holes the match was all square when Arsenault proceeded to birdie three of the next four holes to take the victory. A rain delay Saturday morning pushed the championship match to Tuesday at the Belvedere Golf Club.
On Sunday Arsenault defeated Richard Little of Fox Meadow 3 and 2 to reach the final while Shellington eliminated Tim York of Anderson's Creek 5 and 4 to set up the final.
This event marks the end of the PEIGA Amateur golf season. The top three ranked players from this summers tournaments will be awarded prizes compliments of Titleist and Chris Irwin. These awards and prizes will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the PEIGA this winter.

It was a nice way to finish my tournament golf ... looking forward to playing next year now ! Don't really want the season to be over ... but it's ok.

Advice from Tony Horton

From our great friend, Tony Horton, enjoy, and worth the 5 minutes to read.

YOU ARE GOING TO DIE !

The title of this blog is much more than a means to grab your attention. With the start of a new year it's typical for many people to establish new disciplines (temporarily), but the new year is also a reminder that time is flying at light speed, literally. With every passing nanosecond we all get a little closer to death. You know, that thing that happens to everyone. Your final day on earth, rigermortous sets in, the end. It seems to me that quite a lot of people meander through life as if death isn't coming. We act as if we have all the time in the world. We wait, hesitate, procrastinate and blow-off life altering opportunities all the time. Our goals, ideas and aspirations are put on hold for some ideal moment in the distant future. We dillydally and waist our precious time on a mishmash of nonsensical meaningless crap that consumes years of our lives. Why and for what? Most often it's because we're scared. Scared to live at our full potential. Why take the risk when you think we're going to live forever? I'm here to tell you that your life on this earth is precious and shorter than you think. Turning 50 this year proved that to me. I swear it feels like I was in high school ten minutes ago. Turns out that was over 30 years ago! As we get older change can become more daunting with every passing day. You don't have to be at midlife for this to be true. Teenagers get just as stuck as people in their 50s and 60s. I've seen people give up and thrown in the towel at all ages. We've all been an eyewitness to the tragedies of misguided lives. The hope and optimism of childhood gives way to despair and disappointment with one bad experience after another. It's the saddest thing in the world. Maybe you know what I'm talking about.

Is there hope for the fallen? Can we turn it around after years of wasting time, procrastinating, plenty of hardship and waiting for the right moment that never comes? Hell yes! The good news is that you can have the life you dreamed of as a kid without meds and therapy. Step one is moving. Turns out that it doesn't really matter how you move. What matters is that you do. Step two involves eating healthy food. Whole food that feeds the body, spirit and especially the mind. The garbage this country eats most of the time is killing us. Junk food and fast food (AKA food porn) does NOT fuel our desire to grow, learn and change. It keeps us in a state of flux and despair. If you have problems, procrastinate and feel stuck in general, odds are you're overweight, out of shape and eat junk. The deck is stacked against you if you're overweight and out of shape. Your brain can't function to solve problems properly if your feeding your mouth tons of sugar and grease. If you like a life of quite desperation then continue to spend endless hours sitting and laying around. If procrastination, sadness, depression, low self esteem and a state of malaise fits your lifestyle then continue to eat candy, cupcakes, high fructose corn syrup, fried food, saturated fats, soda pop, processed carbs, hot dogs and tons of cheese on your pepperoni pizza. Nobody gets away with making lame choices in this world. Sooner or later (turns out later comes sooner than you thought) your bad behavior will ruin your life.

Good behavior can and will save your life. Good behavior will give you the opportunity to turn misery into joy and happiness. In the end it's joy and happiness we seek. Authentic joy and happiness comes from treating ourselves and others with respect and civility. Adult toys (cars, homes, jewelry, etc), prestige, money and looks are usually a means to short term pleasures. These things feed the ego. The ego isn't real. It's your desire to create a false you to present to the world. Nothing but smoke and mirrors to make you feel better than someone else. Yuck! What is good behavior? You know exactly what it is by now. It's a matter of whether you want to practice it consistently or not. The more disciplined you are the less problems you'll have. Honestly! For real! Life will still come at you at a million miles an hour and the issues in your life will still exist, but when you exercise and eat right you create the brain chemistry of a person who can deal with issues, problems and challenges productively and happily. Other variables like proper sleep and stress management skills play a roll as well, but the foundation of "the good life" comes from the two things that make you a joyous happy human being. Exercise and healthy food. Period. The clock is ticking and your death is inevitable, so while your here why not take the first steps toward a better life. Get off the fence, ask for help, start moving, eat your veggies, enjoy the journey, enjoy the power of right now, push play and experience the life you desire and deserve.

2010 Maritime Cup Champs !!!

Team Captain : Tim Yorke

Here is the article that passed in the journal the day after winning the Maritime Cup. It was the 2nd time I was on the team and it was another great weekend. I surpassed my goal of going 3 wins - 2 losses by going 5 wins 0 losses. I was up against the weaker players of the other provinces, but it was still important for me to play well enough to defeat them. Playing with Grant Somers Saturday during the team events was just awesome, way better than last year even. We really clicked and he played so solid.

Here are my results :

Saturday morning - Best Ball - Grant and Nick defeat Nova Scotia 6 and 5
Saturday afternoon - Alternate shot - Grant and Nick defeat Nova Scotia 5 and 3
Saturday afternoon - Alternate shot - Grant and Nick defeat New Brunswick 3 and 2
Sunday morning - Singles - Nick defeats Nova Scotia 5 and 3
Sunday morning - Singles - Nick defeats New Brunswick 1up

P.E.I. kings of Maritime Cup golf

Published on September 26th, 2010

MILL RIVER - There was a time when Tim Yorke wondered whether P.E.I. really belonged in the Mel Murray Maritime Cup golf event.

"We were, by far, the underdogs," Yorke said.

But not anymore.

At the Mill River Provincial Golf Course on Sunday, Team P.E.I. captured the Mel Murray Maritime Cup for the third straight year. And it wasn't even close this year.

P.E.I. amassed 34 points in the two-day Ryder Cup-style tournament, which features the top 12 amateurs from each of the participating provinces. New Brunswick finished second with 22 1/2 points, and Nova Scotia had 15 1/2 points.

Yorke, captain of Team P.E.I., said the landslide victory was probably the biggest of any province in the event's 10-year history.

Dave Shellington (co-captain), John Schurman (co-captain), Nick Arsenault, Rich Little, Chris Welton, Kyle Fraser, Martin O'Brien, Matt Wodd, Mike Irwin, Rob Younker and Grant Somers rounded out Team P.E.I.'s roster.

Margin of victory

Although confident in his team's ability, Yorke admitted he was surprised by the margin of victory.

"I actually figured it would be down to the last couple of matches," he said.

P.E.I. had built up a small lead Saturday, and just kept adding to it in Sunday's singles matches.

"We front-loaded our team," Yorke said of the final-day matchups. "We put some strength out early, hoping to build some momentum and pull away with it, and it worked."

P.E.I. was close only once in the tournament’s first seven years. Yorke credits the turnaround in the last three years to growth in the sport on P.E.I., and a good junior program.

And it helps that players are believing in the Maritime Cup format, and getting used to match play.

Top event

Yorke suggested the Mel Murray Maritime Cup has become the top golf event in the Maritimes, attracting the region's top golfers.

"That says something about the competition - guys want to compete against the best players," he stressed.

Match play, Yorke added, is a much more enjoyable game for most players as they can forget about their eights and nines on some holes, and treat the next hole as a new game.

This is the second year in a row, and the third time overall, that Mill River hosted the Mel Murray Maritime Cup.

Yorke said negotiations are in the works that might see the tournament stay in Mill River for the next five years. He described it as the perfect venue, and said players from the other provinces like the location.

Festival Acadien 2010

Réveil a joué vendredi soir to the great pleasure of all ... toute le monde a back danser toute la soirée longue pi ya pas d'questions qu'on va back lé demander next année. Kenneth Saulnier et ses musiciens ont joué le samedi soir, pi la musique était de meilleur qualité, yes, but moins all-out party style comme Réveil. Plus, le vent était assez haut samedi soir pi du monde pensait que s'allait être cancelled. Cancelled ?? Come on !! Y'a pas d'way qu'on aurait cancellé ça, no matter les circumstances. J'ai pu voir une bunch de vieilles faces qué tou'l'temps nice ... ya du monde qui vient de pas mal loin pour le Festival. Une bunch descendront pour le Festival pi pas Noël, juste pour montrer the degree of hardcoreness pour some. Anyhow, c'était back un great time, pi j'ai déjà soif pour la next edition ... hopefully dans notre brand new rink !!
