Here is the article that passed in the journal the day after winning the Maritime Cup. It was the 2nd time I was on the team and it was another great weekend. I surpassed my goal of going 3 wins - 2 losses by going 5 wins 0 losses. I was up against the weaker players of the other provinces, but it was still important for me to play well enough to defeat them. Playing with Grant Somers Saturday during the team events was just awesome, way better than last year even. We really clicked and he played so solid.

MILL RIVER - There was a time when Tim Yorke wondered whether P.E.I. really belonged in the Mel Murray Maritime Cup golf event.

"We were, by far, the underdogs," Yorke said.

But not anymore.

At the Mill River Provincial Golf Course on Sunday, Team P.E.I. captured the Mel Murray Maritime Cup for the third straight year. And it wasn't even close this year.

P.E.I. amassed 34 points in the two-day Ryder Cup-style tournament, which features the top 12 amateurs from each of the participating provinces. New Brunswick finished second with 22 1/2 points, and Nova Scotia had 15 1/2 points.

Yorke, captain of Team P.E.I., said the landslide victory was probably the biggest of any province in the event's 10-year history.

Dave Shellington (co-captain), John Schurman (co-captain), Nick Arsenault, Rich Little, Chris Welton, Kyle Fraser, Martin O'Brien, Matt Wodd, Mike Irwin, Rob Younker and Grant Somers rounded out Team P.E.I.'s roster.



Margin of victory

Although confident in his team's ability, Yorke admitted he was surprised by the margin of victory.

"I actually figured it would be down to the last couple of matches," he said.

P.E.I. had built up a small lead Saturday, and just kept adding to it in Sunday's singles matches.

"We front-loaded our team," Yorke said of the final-day matchups. "We put some strength out early, hoping to build some momentum and pull away with it, and it worked."

P.E.I. was close only once in the tournament’s first seven years. Yorke credits the turnaround in the last three years to growth in the sport on P.E.I., and a good junior program.

And it helps that players are believing in the Maritime Cup format, and getting used to match play.



Top event

Yorke suggested the Mel Murray Maritime Cup has become the top golf event in the Maritimes, attracting the region's top golfers.

"That says something about the competition - guys want to compete against the best players," he stressed.

Match play, Yorke added, is a much more enjoyable game for most players as they can forget about their eights and nines on some holes, and treat the next hole as a new game.

This is the second year in a row, and the third time overall, that Mill River hosted the Mel Murray Maritime Cup.

Yorke said negotiations are in the works that might see the tournament stay in Mill River for the next five years. He described it as the perfect venue, and said players from the other provinces like the location.

Festival Acadien 2010

Le Festival Acadien de la région Évangéline existe ça fait pas mâl d'années ... atleast, ça tou'l'temps existé depuis que moi ju envie, so pour moi ça tou'l'temps existé. Ça fait une couple d'années que j'ayide su l'côté artistique pour booker les bands et les artistes qui se présentent sur la scène pendant la fin de semaine. Desfois c'est pas mal de planification, but I must admit, une fois que la weekend vient, ju pas mal pumped up à faire parti de la whole thing. St'année ça ma pas du tout stressé pi toute à vraiment bien té. Well, on avait pas exactly de rink, but ça faisait pas grand différence ça ... on a renté une tente pour la weekend pi toute était fine and dandy dans là. Il faullait qu'on cancel les shows du samedi après-midi à cause y'avait à moitché un Hurricane (Earl) qui faisait son p'tit tannant. C'était mon (late) oncle qui nous faisait une p'tit trick encore une fois pour nous dire qu'y'était bein fine yousque y'était. Réveil a joué vendredi soir to the great pleasure of all ... toute le monde a back danser toute la soirée longue pi ya pas d'questions qu'on va back lé demander next année. Kenneth Saulnier et ses musiciens ont joué le samedi soir, pi la musique était de meilleur qualité, yes, but moins all-out party style comme Réveil. Plus, le vent était assez haut samedi soir pi du monde pensait que s'allait être cancelled. Cancelled ?? Come on !! Y'a pas d'way qu'on aurait cancellé ça, no matter les circumstances. J'ai pu voir une bunch de vieilles faces qué tou'l'temps nice ... ya du monde qui vient de pas mal loin pour le Festival. Une bunch descendront pour le Festival pi pas Noël, juste pour montrer the degree of hardcoreness pour some. Anyhow, c'était back un great time, pi j'ai déjà soif pour la next edition ... hopefully dans notre brand new rink !!

Dallas Stars training camp

Went to check out the Dallas Stars training camp at the UPEI Cari Complex last weekend. Always interesting to see the very best players in any sport competing. These guys were there on a Saturday morning, training hard, getting their bodies into shape for the upcoming season. It's amazing how fast they push and how intense the practice was.

Well, even the Summerside Caps, they train at the gym from 7:30 p.m. t'ill 8:30 ish, then go for an hour and a quarter practice. I think they do that twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and typically play two games a week. Goes to show the level of focus and work that is put in ... they don't just go out there and play.

Maritime Cup bound

I've been picked to play for team PEI in the Maritime Cup. Needless to say I was quite thrilled to receive the call from Tim Yorke, who is captain of the team. Last year we retained the cup as we had tied New Brunswick. Team PEI will be going for a 3-peat. Anyhow, I'll be practicing as much as possible this week, getting ready to contribute as well as possible ! Last year I was 2-3, my goal is to go 3-2 this year. We'll see !

Tignish - PEI's slum. There's never been a fair fight in Tignish. They all have drinking problems by 15 years old, mustaches by 16, Chevy Cavaliers or Pontiac Sunfires by 18, fat wives by 19, 50 empty cases of Alpine in the trunk by Sunday, dentures by 20, jailhouse-looking tattoos by 25, restraining orders by 26, Harleys without pipes by 30. Tignish is full of the biggest cowards, losers, inbreeders, closed-minded fools and ignorant hicks in all of Canada. Suck on THAT!

I rejoiced in a few tears when I heard the fabulous news that St-Chrysostome, my beloved softball beer league team, had finally won its first championship ever since Saint-Chrysostome himself pitched in the first ever game, with a cigarette in mouth. Joseph, son of Ronald, team captain, was kind enough to give me a beautiful recap of the weekend. The past few years I've been unable to attend all games and have only showed up here and there ... yet never has my heart veered ... ever do I stand a St-Chrysostomer. Here is the play by play as described by Champion, Joseph Caissie.

I'm not sure where to begin,
I don't know much about the other games, scores and such, maybe you could get some other results from Ghislain,
Not sure how much detail your able to put but here's what I know, (all games were played at school and in Mont Carmel)

At 10am we played against the old veterans from previous years teams put together by Gilles Bernard (peanut) with help from J-C Gallant.  The team went by the name of Mont Carmel.  We were victorious 9 to 3.
A stellar defensive effort led by All star shortstop Joey Caissie was the key to the victory as well as a strong pitching performance from Jonathan Caissie.
Our top batters this game were spread out, (Jamie Arsenault 2 for 3, triple, double, walk, 2 RBI,), (Joey Caissie 2 for 3 double, walk, RBI) and
(jonathan Caissie 2 for 3, walk, RBI).  The other game at 10am fe.atured Abram's Village captained by Ghislain Bernard victorious over the Wellington team captained by Catlin Palmer.

At 12:30 we played against Abram's Village.  Once again stellar defense and a solid pitching performance from Tyler Richard were the difference in a 13 to 8 St Chrysostome win.  Many would say that the TSN turning point was midway through the game with Abram's Village threatening to get back in the game with one out and runners in scoring position, a lazy line drive up the middle was flagged down in mid air by shortstop Joey Caissie who then somehow managed to get the ball off balance to 2nd baseman Marcel Arsenault who made an incredible diving catch while remaining on the bag to catch the base runner and convert the double play to get out of trouble.  Top batters:
(Jonathan Caissie 3 for 4, HR, double, 2 RBI), (Jamie Caissie 2 for 4, HR, 3 RBI), (Joey Caissie 3 for 4, Triple, Double, 3 RBI).
In the other game at 12:30, the veteran team from Mont Carmel (peanuts) defeated Wellington (Catlins).

At 2:30 we played against Catlins team from Wellington and finished 3-0 with a 15 to 7 victory.  Marcel Arsenault pitched a brilliant game for the win.  Top Batters:
(Jonathan Jeffery 3 for 3 walk, 2 RBI), (Tyler Richard 2 for 4 HR, 2 RBI), (Marcel Arsenault 2 for 3 walk, 3 RBI)  In the other game to decide 2nd place, Abrams Village was victorious over Mont Carmel (peanuts).

In the championship,in Mont Carmel,  the two longest tenured teams remaining in the league, and also the two teams that had both never won the championship to this point, battled it out for the trophy.  The game was tight, with St Chrysostome (the home team) getting out to an early 5 to 1 lead after 2 innings, but with Abram's village fighting back to tie the game at 6 to 6 in the third.  Abrams Village then took an 8 to 6 lead into the 5th inning when St Chrysostome in their turn battled back to tie the game at 8's.  The score remained tied at 8 to 8 throughout the 7th and final inning so an extra 8th inning was required.  In the top of the 7th, St Chrysostome held Abram's Village off the score sheet for the 4th consecutive inning then went back to work in the bottom of the 8th.  Leadoff batter Tyler Richard drew a walk and eventually made his way to third base.  With 2 outs and runners on the corners, Jason (a Edmond) Arsenault stepped up to the plate and delivered a screaming line drive single into the shallow left field gap to score Richard from 3rd and win the game for St Chrysostome and the most coveted of trophies. Tyler Richard was the winning pitcher in relief of Jason (a Edmond) Arsenault.  Top Batters:

Aurelle a Denis (Arsenault??) was on hand to present team captain Joey Caissie with the Claude memorial trophy as you can well see in the pics posted all over facebook.
That's the story as I remember it, you can ask  Peanut, Ghiz and Catlin for more details if you wish, and of course I am always available for interviews, as are all of my teammates I am certain.  I will talk with the rest of the guys over the weekend to see if they can remember any other details, there was also a big double play around the 6th inning in the championship game where we got someone out at 1st base and at home, i'll try to get you the details on that one.

It has been a similar year in the sense that nothing calming has come over me to control my emotions, and my swing under situations that could be  a little stressful. I was only ever close to the lead after Stanhope and Belvedere, then quickly made several bogeys to start my 2nd round. Currently (just Match-Play left) I'm ranked 12th overall on the island. All things considered, it's ok, yes, it's ok. I didn't get picked to play in the Maritime Cup which made sense. Even though I was 12th, I didn't exactly make any memorable performances to warrant the captains to pick me to go on the team. I admit it has already fueled a fire for next year ... and we will see if my results can improve. Yet, I will have to make big changes in my mental game and perhaps physical game throughout the winter and early months next year in order to change this pattern of finishing in the middle of the pack. I guess though, the most frustrating thing, is that I still had no trust of my swing .. even on rounds that ended up good .. I still had no trust of my swing out on the course. I putt well pretty much all year .. happy about that. And with my new driver I've been driving the ball phenomenally off the tee. It's now to tighten up my iron play ... it really is my iron play (including chipping and pitching) where I lose ALL my shots. Anyhow, even though sometimes I feel like quitting the game of golf, within a few hours after the round, I want to play again ... amazing game : )

A few years ago now, just found it randomly in my random photos. I enjoyed acting, but after a while felt I wasn't that funny and didn't have that much presence on the scene. So I've backed off until it feels right to try again (if that ever comes). Still enjoyed doing them and did several from 2003 t'ill 2008 during summers.

I'm reading a book that Helen gave me written (if we can say that) by Jeff Foster. This guy is absoblument unbalievable. I can sit in my chair in my office for very long periods of time now and do absolutely nothing. Just sit there. If you think about this, I think it's an accomplishment. How many people could sit on a park bench outside all day without budging (assuming you prepared a bologna (not bolony(I love parenthesisising inside other parenthesisesis)) sandwich when hunger strikes) ?

I don't have to go on forever about it, if you feel it, go see it, if not, don't. It won't hurt the feelings that emanate within the force field I too oftenly interpret as "mine". It is but a force field, not mine ... and there's nothing wrong with it.

You don't need to smoke or get intoxicated with Lots of Beereses when you can read books like Jeff's. It's deeper on a deeper level, a better level.

TSN Kraft Celebration Tour

Unbelievably, or not, Abram-Village's application for this TSN thing won ... we took home $25 000 and we got to host Darren Dutchyshen (well spellt) and Jennifer Hedger (well .. just well) from TSN as they broadcasted SportsCentre. It was an hour show and about 15 minutes was focused on la région Évangéline, kindof cool. Cedric did a great job in the interview (same as Des and Claude's siblings) and the 911 call was stunning to hear it for the first time. The park stood so silent it was awesome when we all saw this for this first time, about 750 people there in utter silence. I still get chills and tense up when I watch it over again. Can't wait to see Cedric with his tuxedo driving around in that zamboni on our new ice surface. We had the right people in place to deal with such a huge blow,  it's amazing the aliveness that happened within the spirits dwelling in our community once the rink burnt. At the TSN thing at the Park in Wellington, we saw people who we forgot still lived. People are coming out of their hermit holes and realizing our community still rocks the cashbox !! Here's a few pics to try to sum up the whole thing ... a great experience. I may have written the essay and submitted a picture, but everyone helped to push the tiny snowball into the avalanche that made us win. Hopefully great things like this keep happening for us !!

Ma première try à faire une pièce de théâtre avec sta gang là. J'étais nervous au start et j'ai été jeté une couple de curveballs, mais en général ça vraiment bien té et j'ai laimé l'expérience. J'suis embauché pour faire deux autres pièces dans l'automne, so ça doit que quelque chose à pogné .. but j'y pense pas trop trop. C'est kindof weird comment mes dernières jobs ont juste poppé out of nowhere, j'crois j'ai juste plus de trust que la vie va aller ma way dans son bon temps. J'essaye pas trop de penser par en avant ou en arrière ... juste par en d'dans.
